I'm on a roll! It's strange - this is technically the busiest year I've ever had, but I've written more in two months than I did all last year.

It's a Kingdom Hearts story this time - my first since 'Take This Key'. Anyway, I really need to get on to writing some Aqua.

Title: Unbreakable Chains
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Author: starling-night
Genre: Character study, psychological
Pairings: None
Rating: K
Words: 4,109
Summary:  These are the things Sora knows: he has a heart. He loves his friends. He’s the keyblade’s chosen one. He hates Organization XIII and he doesn’t have a choice, because he has to do what he has to do, to save the world and save his friends. And sooner or later, one way or another, he's going to win this thing. It's only a matter of time.

Crossposted to ffnet and AO3.

And another fic! Trying to finish all this stuff before school starts...

Title: The Taste Of Flames
Fandom: Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney
Genre: Psychological, Angst
Summary: When Nick loses his badge, Maya is determined to help him recover it. Whatever the price, she’s willing to pay it, even if that means letting an old enemy in – and by then it’s too late to turn back. Maya/Phoenix, of a sort.
Characters: Maya Fey, Phoenix Wright, Dahlia Hawthorne, Mia Fey, Pearl Fey

Maya reflects that it must be an example of some twisted humour on the world’s part that the worst thing possible had to happen on such an absolutely perfect day... )

Posting my latest fic here! Also crossposted to and Archive Of Our Own.

Title: Almost Like Flying
Genre: Psychological, Drama, Angst
Summary: A scyther is captured, and she hates it - right up until she doesn't. Whether this is a good thing or not depends on who you ask.
Characters: Scyther, Lyra/Kotone, Typhlosion
Notes: Set in gameverse Johto, with Lyra from HG/SS as the 'player character'. And just as a heads up, I do enjoy playing the games.

Done for a competition thingy. Short and sweet :3 And no use of italics whatsoever!

I never wanted it to turn out this way. I never guessed, I never thought... )

Day 07 - Your Favorite Piece of Music

I mean, what a gorgeous piece. It ticks all my musical appreciation boxes and it's so...SO GOOD askdfl;jasdlkj just indescribably good.

Day 08 - A Who-Related Photo That makes you happy

Can you see why this would make me happy can you

Day 09 - A Who-Related Photo That Makes You Angry/Sad

Not taken by me! This is a photo of David Tennant and Tom Baker at Nick Courtney's funeral. Nick Courtney played the Brigadier from Classic Who, and while I've never seen him in action, I do know what a contribution he made to the show and how sad it was when he passed away :(

Day 05 - Your Favorite Companion

I love all the companions, but I'd have to say my favourite is Martha Jones.

She is brave, intelligent, and has a truly wonderful story arc. I was awed by how much strength she showed throughout the series, and the maturity she showed at the end when she made her decision to leave the Doctor. She walked the earth and saved it all on her own, and she wasn't about to go back to being second best.

Day 04 - Your Favorite Doctor

Okay. Let's see. The choice is between Nine, Ten and Eleven and I have to pick one.
I don't want to :C
Looks like...I'll have to take a fourth option.
I choose you...JOANNA LUMLEY!

'Oh look, it's got three settings!'

Day 03 - Your Favorite New Series Episode

Oooookay this might be a tricky one. *runs through list of episodes in my head* I'd make it a tossup Dalek, Blink, Last of the Time Lords, Midnight, the Waters of Mars and The Pandorica Opens. And that's leaving out a lot of others. I think I'll go with Midnight as my final answer, but it's not really a thing because I love them all (mostly.) and I hate picking favourites :(

Day 02 - Your Favorite Classic Series Episode

I don't think I've ever made it a secret that I haven't watched much classic series. At all. This isn't anything against it, mind you, and I most definitely know all the history and many of the companions of that time period, it's just the only actual classic serial I've watched is 'City of Death' with Tom Baker. It's simply for lack of time and motivation, I swear. And it was very good, just not as entertaining as New Who. Since it's the only one I've seen (FORGIVE ME) I'm going to have to label it as my favourite.

So. I decided to do this meme thing! And it's about Doctor Who, so it should be awesome! :D :D :D

Oh, damn it...there are so many quotable quotes in this show. What a hard question :( ...but my answer is, without a doubt, KINGDOM HEARTS IS LIGHT  the timey-wimey stuff quote.

""People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly...timey wimey...stuff." - The Tenth Doctor

In terms of writing, of course.

So here on the internets I've noticed that many literary analysis people severely dislike writing done in first person present tense. I can see why this would be a problem - it can be severely misused.
So then of course I wondered if I was doing it wrong. So I go to my page, and...well, let's look at the figures.

First person: 7
Third person: 10

Not bad, but...

Present tense: 13
Past tense: 4

First person present: 6
Third person past: 2

(The rest are third person present or first person past.)

I don't know, but the FPPS style is just so easy and natural for me that it's difficult to make myself write in other styles. This is likely to be a problem, because 'easy and natural' does not equal 'actual good writing'. It just means I don't get writers' block as much with that style, or have problems imagining what I'm going to say.

So. I've been vaguely trying to wean myself off first person. My more recent stories are all in third person. But I'm currently writing a fic about Rena's perspective of Onikakushi-hen, and I tried so hard, but I couldn't imagine it in anything but first person, and so I went 'OK but it has to be past tense', but then it was crap and I changed it, and now I'm justifying it being FPPS with the fact that the visual novels are like It's gotta stop sometime, but I don't even know. I'm not even concretely sure what the problems with FPPS are, so not enough motivation to change, either.

This. Fic.

Look, just go check the above fic linked right now. No matter what you think at first, just keep reading. I'm serious. Even when you're getting bored and wonder why I rec'd this crap, just keep reading. Skim if you want. Just read the whole thing. holy shit.

Alright, so this book wasn't crap. It wasn't Twilight or one of those ripoff stalkerish YA novels filling the shelves these days. It just wasn't that enjoyable and could have been done a lot better.
In short: Lots of people think this book is awesome. I think different.

When 23 year old Sister Evangeline of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in upstate New York discovers a letter dated 1943 from Abigail Rockefeller, the famed philanthropist, to the late mother superior of Saint Rose Convent, she uncovers a millennia-old war between the Society of Angelologists and the Nephilim (descendants of fallen angels). As Evangeline shares her discovery with angeologists, she assists them in their efforts to halt the Nephilim from overpowering humankind.

I wasn't sucked in by the blurb at all, to be honest, but since it was recommended to me and the reviews were glowing, I figured I'd look at this book from the 'I'm reading quality literature!' perspective. However, I just couldn't enjoy it and soon put the book down (not before reading the oh-so-shocking ending, of course. Meh. I'd guessed the twist from just the first ten chapters.)

In short...I'm unimpressed and gave up shortly after Chapter 10.

So I'm reading my brand new copy of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, which I forked out $20 for. And it is BRILLIANT, I'm so glad I bought it. Ceca, I'm going to make you read this. You have NO IDEA OF ITS  BRILLIANCE, I GUARANTEE YOU.

Eventually, even stars burn out.

But I'm posting this because...

Because all there on the bridge was one in the Force, from the gross structure of the ship itself to the quantum dance of the electron shells of individual atoms - and because, after all, the nerves and muscles of the bio-droid general were creations of electronics and duranium, not living tissue with will of its own- it was just barely possible that with exactly the right twist of his mind, in that once vulnerable quarter of a second while Grievous was distracted, flinching backward from a spray of flame hot enough to burn even his armored body, Obi-Wan might be able to temporarily reverse the polarity of the electrodrivers in the general's mechanic hands.

Emphasis mine.

BUT SERIOUSLY, DID I JUST READ THAT?? aslj;alskjf;alsf look my brain is weird I can't cope with this sort of thing. Especially as I am a HUGE Doctor Who fan..

Hahaha. Anyway, if you've got the time and the money, just go buy 'Star Wars; Revenge of the Sith' by Matthew Stover, even if you've never seen a Star Wars film. I haven't, just bits... I've kind of patched together a knowledge of the canon through reading my cousin's novelisations, picture books, video games, encyclopedias etc. I've been to Star Wars exhibitions, read Star Wars fanfic (admittedly only Estora's) and I just bought a Star Wars book, even though I've never watched any of the films the whole way through.

I think it might be time, actually. Better go borrow some DVD's..
